My car is a A6 C6 4.2 Quattro, (BNK engine, same as BAT engine). Thanks in advance! To check the intake and exhaust camshaft alignment, you check Measuring Block 93. You then would add together the intake and exhaust displayed values for Bank 1, and do the same for Bank 2. If the total exceeds about 7 degrees for either bank, then the timing is Re: 2010 (March) - 1.8 TFSI - Timing Chain or Belt? – 18-12-2013, 12:45 AM. It is also important to keep the timing chain well lubricated as using the wrong viscosity oil could damage the timing chain pins
3) This week I've had a major failure. The timing chain tensioner has failed (a £33.60 part - pics attached for interest) causing £4.4K of damage (another Waranty claim) to the engine. New Cylinderhead needed and new valves etc as timing chain has jumped 4 notches and pistons have bent the valves! So its time for me to bow out from A5OC.

Stay on top of your oil changes and it should be OK for engine life. They normally don't snap, they can rattle around when they get worn/stretched but I'd doubt you will have this happen to you. You might be thinking about a timing belt. Those should be replaced at around 90k miles or so. As mentioned, a chain, no.
